Cellar Keeper Speedrun Mode

No upgrades. Leaderboards. Pure sorting execution.

Last updated:

Speedrun Mode strips away the safety net. Cellar Keeper still asks you to sort all 2,448 bottles with the same label hierarchy — wine type for map routing, brand for shelf lock-in, series number for intra-brand order — but disables skill upgrades and clocks your run for leaderboards. Every gray flash costs seconds you cannot buy back with Batch Grab or erase with Auto Place. Speedrun Mode is the test of whether you internalized the cellar or relied on Cozy crutches.

EgoTrampoline’s August 6, 2026 Steam release positions Speedrun as the competitive layer atop an otherwise cozy sim. Treat it as a graduate exam after Cozy Mode training.

What Speedrun Mode removes

Speedrun disables the seven Cozy upgrades:

You pick up bottles one at a time (subject to base interaction rules), read labels manually, and walk at default movement speed unless base mechanics include minor modifiers. Confirm bindings in Keyboard and Mouse or Controller.

What Speedrun Mode keeps

Sorting rules are unchanged — see Sorting Rules.

Central map and cabinet symbols remain — Cabinet Symbols.

Ten-bottle carry limit remains — batch planning matters even without Batch Grab.

Yellow and gray feedback remains — fix gray immediately; there is no upgrade to compensate.

Speedrun preparation checklist

Before submitting a timed run:

  1. Memorize high-traffic symbol routes via Cellar Layout.
  2. Drill wine type recognition — Types and Brands.
  3. Practice brand-first shelf planning to avoid lock-in cleanup.
  4. Pre-plan ten-bottle trips by type to minimize return walks.
  5. Read Cozy Mode vs Speedrun Mode for mindset shifts.

Optimal routing without upgrades

Map discipline. Open the map only when needed — excessive UI toggles cost time — but never skip it when entering unfamiliar wings. Wrong-wing trips are the largest pre-skill time sink.

Type-pure batches. Never mix wine types in carry slots. Without Batch Grab, you still fill ten slots manually; mixed types multiply cabinet visits.

Shelf lookahead. Enter cabinet rooms knowing which brand owns which shelf. First placement locks the shelf — hesitation hurts Speedrun more than Cozy.

Series deferral. Strict series order matters for completion aesthetics but may cost time early. Decide whether your run category cares about perfect shelves or raw finish time.

Leaderboards and run categories

Speedrun Mode feeds leaderboard times tracked by the game. Community discussions may define additional categories (full cellar, partial splits, controller versus keyboard). Document personal rules if you compare externally.

Achievements such as Peak Efficiency may overlap Speedrun goals — cross-check Achievements if you combine milestone hunting with timed attempts.

Speedrun versus Hardcore

Hardcore Mode adds breakage risk while often retaining Cozy upgrades. Speedrun removes upgrades but avoids breakage penalties. Pick Speedrun for pure time trials; pick Hardcore for mechanical tension with skills.

Controller and keyboard considerations

Steam lists full controller support. Speedrun runners split between keyboard-mouse precision for map panning and controller comfort for movement. Test both in Controls hub before committing to leaderboard attempts.

Recovery after bad splits

Gray feedback mid-run: fix immediately unless your category allows abandon-and-restart. Wrong brand lock-in: budget time to reorganize or reset if splits are beyond recovery.

Without Spot Matches, search piles systematically by wine type visually before picking up bottles — wandering costs more than thirty seconds of scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Does Speedrun Mode allow skill upgrades?

No. All seven Cozy skills are disabled. You sort with base mechanics only.

Are leaderboard times tracked in Speedrun Mode?

Do sorting rules change in Speedrun Mode?

No. Wine type routing, brand shelf lock-in, and yellow or gray feedback are identical to Cozy Mode.

Should I learn Speedrun before Cozy Mode?

No. Learn labels and map symbols in [Cozy Mode](/modes/cozy-mode/) first, then transition when gray feedback is rare.
