Cellar Keeper Hardcore Mode
Same cozy upgrades — but drop a bottle and pay for it.
Hardcore Mode is Cellar Keeper’s tension layer for keepers who already understand labels, map symbols, and shelf lock-in — and want consequences beyond gray placement feedback. EgoTrampoline keeps the cozy organizing fantasy intact, but careless movement can break bottles, turning a routing mistake into permanent progress loss for that item. Hardcore typically retains Cozy-style skill progression, so Spot Matches and Batch Grab still matter, unlike Speedrun Mode which removes upgrades entirely.
Approach Hardcore after you read Sorting Rules and can reliably route wine type batches using Cabinet Symbols. Hardcore punishes panic, not learning.
Core Hardcore rules
Sorting logic unchanged. Wine type maps to cabinet symbols. Brand locks shelves on first placement. Series numbers order within brands. Yellow confirms; gray rejects.
Breakage added. Mishandling bottles — rushed movement, risky jumps, collisions, or other careless interactions depending on patch behavior — can shatter bottles. Treat every carry slot as fragile once you leave a safe staging area.
Skills usually available. Hardcore aligns with Cozy progression: complete shelves, earn points, unlock the seven skills documented on the Skills hub. Verify any patch-specific restrictions in patch notes via Guides hub updates.
Risk management strategies
Walk before sprint. Sprint saves time in Cozy but increases breakage risk near stairs or tight racks in Hardcore. Sprint on straight corridors with clear sight lines only.
Jump with clearance. Jump shortcuts exist in some layouts — see Cellar Layout — but botched landings near bottle-handling zones are costly.
Batch conservatively. Ten-bottle carry capacity still applies. Full carries raise stakes if you stumble. Consider partial batches through hazardous transitions even with Batch Grab unlocked.
Fix gray before rushing. Gray feedback means wrong placement — forcing a bottle into a wrong shelf under time stress invites drops. Pause, reread Types and Brands, replan.

Map and routing under pressure
Wrong-wing trips hurt twice in Hardcore: wasted time plus extra movement risk. Pre-check every batch against the central map before entering choke corridors from Cellar Layout.
Target Hint reduces wrong turns once types are identified. Auto Place minimizes fumbled shelf interactions when brand ownership is already decided.
Achievements and completion
Hardcore runs can still contribute to completion goals if bottles remain accounted for — broken bottles may require sourcing replacements or adjusting completion routes depending on game rules. Track milestones on Achievements and consult How to Complete the Cellar before Hardcore 100% attempts.
Controls and ergonomics
Steam advertises full controller support. Hardcore players on controller should tune movement sensitivity and confirm grab or drop bindings in Controller. Keyboard users see Keyboard and Mouse for parallel notes.
Stable input reduces accidental drops more than any skill upgrade.
When to play Hardcore
Good fit: You finish Cozy wings with minimal gray feedback and want stakes without giving up Batch Grab.
Poor fit: You still confuse wine type and brand regularly — stay in Cozy Mode until Bottles hub pages feel automatic.
Alternative: If you want pressure without breakage, try Speedrun Mode leaderboards instead.
